At The Beach Boost we collect trash washing up on the shores of Bonaire National Marine Park. Allthough it’s an endless stream of plastic we take action to create awareness to reduce, re-use & recycle.

how the beach boost cleanup started

In the summer of 2024 we first were confronted with oil ending up on the beach of Bonaire. Killing thousands of animals and destroying wildlife & vegetation.

A ship stranded near Trinidad & Tobago, started spilling/leaking oil. A month after, with springtide, me and my friends were wingfoil surfing on the Ocean near Sorobon / Lac Cay of the shore of Bonaire and got trapped in trash. We hardly could come back to shore. Springtide and changed currents brought in lots of trash from the mainland of South-America.

It became ‘unsailable’ and the beaches covered with trash, piles of plastic bottles, packaging, flip flops, led lights, injection needles, oil jugs, jerrycan’s and even chairs washed up to shore…..

Time for us to start cleaning and raising awareness that this isn’t the way to go forward…

What’s the solution? Reduces & stop using plastics when there is other solutions, make sure plastic’s don’t end up in nature, re-use and recycle.

This part is a huge issue on small islands like Bonaire… Let’s find a solution here!
